The Himalayan valley of Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam — lakes, meadows and the shikara boats of the Dal.
Kashmir is at its best either side of summer. April and May bring the tulip gardens and almond blossom; September and October give clear mountain light and thinner crowds. Winter closes some passes but turns Gulmarg into one of Asia’s better ski slopes.
Most trips base in Srinagar and run out to Pahalgam and Gulmarg, finishing with a night on a Dal Lake houseboat.
